A regional urban search and rescue team
Several members of the Florissant Valley Fire Protection District also serve on the St. Louis County Urban Search and Rescue Strike Team 3, made up of personnel from several St. Louis County fire departments. The team responds to incidents such as building collapse, trench collapse, large-area search, high-angle rescue, and confined-space rescue.
The team is self-sustaining for up to 72 hours, so it does not tax the resources of the areas it responds to help. Task Force 3 is one of five teams across the St. Louis area and the Metro East, all with identical training and equipment. Since joining the task force, District members have responded to several disasters and calls for assistance, including the devastating tornado that struck Joplin, Missouri.
